CANTA’s Europe 1300 opens with a talk on Petrarch and a performance of Machaut’s Le Remède de Fortune by Ensemble Currentes Welcome to Europe 1300, the second event in CANTA’s 2026 multidisciplinary series, devoted to music and culture in fourteenth-century Italy, France, and the Nordic countries.

The evening brings together a lecture on Petrarch’s love poetry by Camilla Erichsen Skalle, Associate Professor at UiB, and a performance of Guillaume de Machaut’s Le Remède de Fortune by Ensemble Currentes. The concert is preceded by a pre-concert introduction by Jostein Gundersen, Professor and Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (UiB).

Machaut’s Le Remède de Fortune, which combines music, narrative, and lyric poetry, is one of the most important works of the Ars Nova period.
